What
is Panuma actually? It
is the name for a small but lively country village - hardly any
bigger than
a tiny hamlet - located in the south-western part of
Pudasjärvi (see
map) town.
Although the
village of Panuma is located in midst of forests and
swamps, it is a pleasant dwelling place — at least for those
just a
little over
one hundred people who live there.
Panuma is inhabited ever since
the 1500's... In old documents,
there are records of settlement from as early as the 1500's.
Nowadays no more
than one
dozen families have their permanent residence in Panuma, a few more
houses are in almost regular use all the year
round and furthermore there is a large number of summer cottages and
leisure
homes all around the Lake Panuma.
We earn our living
here working mostly in industry, traffic and service
branch, in nearby towns like Pudasjärvi or in Oulu city.
Furthermore,
some of us are entrepreneurs, too.
In Panuma we offer also some
tourist and accommodation
service with additional activities. In our village we also
have a reindeer farm
at which you can see various farm animals - including sheep, hens and
reindeer.
